Character Name: Lune
Series: Clair Obscur: Expedition 33
Age: 32
From When?: Near the end of Act II of the game, right before the team goes to fight the Paintress.

Warden Justification: Lune is smart, hardworking, and dedicated. A scholar by nature and upbringing, she's a solid problem solver, and is genuinely interested in people and what makes them tick. If there's any flaws to her approach, it's that she tends to be overly analytical and direct. But her intentions are sound, and she is a genuinely caring person who wants people to be their best selves, and her determination to do a job and do it well gives her persistence and stubbornness. She has learned to manage her feelings of grief and loss by channeling them into what she needs to do:

"The pain we feel… everytime we lose someone… I’ve tried many ways of dealing with it. Running from it. Sitting with it. Compartmentalising it. But what I needed… was to use it. To use everything."
"What do you mean?"
"I feel… everything… And I let it burn inside me. When I’m tired, when I feel hopeless, when I want to just let it all go… I use the pain, I use the fear, the shame, the guilt, the anger, I use it all to keep going. To make sure. I. Continue."

In addition (and perhaps in spite of) all of this, she is insatiably curious about the world at large ("Gustave. We won’t understand what’s going on if we kill everything that moves."), and does in fact have a sense of fun and whimsy beneath her very serious façade, and when she gets to know someone, is willing to share it.

Item: Lunerim, her main weapon.

Abilities/Powers: Lune is an elemental mage, who can control earth, fire, ice, and lightning (call down lightning strikes, set fire to things, etc.). As with other Expedition 33 characters, she has the ability to access chroma, the life-force of the Canvas, to manifest weapons; her weapons are medallions that store Stains (essentially raw elemental power) that she can tap into to make her spells even stronger. She can also use Pictos, which in-game are power enhancements and buffs that provide greater resilience, stronger firepower, and so forth. Also, she's an accomplished guitarist.

Wardening Strategies and Philosophies: Lune is direct and logical to a fault; her inclination when someone is being difficult is to hone in on the clearest solution and say "do this"; frequently she insists on following "protocol" rather than adapting to the situation at hand. Her reaction to a despairing Gustave is to give him a verbal ass-kicking.

"Oh, fuck the mission! Fuck the mission, Lune. What are we gonna do, huh? Tell me. What are we gonna do? We’re gonna take down the Paintress, just the three of us? My… my gun and… and your sparks?"
"I didn’t take you for a coward."
"I’m not a coward."
"You swore the oath. 'When one falls. We. Continue.'"
"Yes, I know.
"When one falls. When one falls. Not if. When. We knew not all of us would make it. But we continue. As long as even one of us stands, our fight is not over."

After his death, her immediate reaction is to sublimate her grief and fear by making strategies and plans. ("The plan doesn’t change. We aim for the Monolith. We keep heading north. With Esquie’s help, we can make it. But we lost the Lumina Converter– ... All the backups were destroyed by that man, but Expedition 32 will bring more, their chances will be better– We need to prepare them. I should update our journals–") When she feels she has a responsibility to fulfill, her tendency is to treat relationships and fun things as "distractions", but the truth is that she craves connection and loves beauty and art, and occasionally needs reminding of that.

Being on the Barge may well help her learn some flexibility in her approach, but at least to begin with, she's going to be very blunt with pretty much everyone. But she is also curious and eager to learn, which gives her another way of possibly connecting with an inmate. Inmates who challenge her analytical mindset would be difficult at first, but probably good for her in the long run. Intellectual or argumentative inmates might be interesting as well, although there's a good possibility that they could argue one another in circles.

Deal: The ability to defeat the Paintress and save the people of Lumière. (There is a lot she does not know at this point about the larger story of the game. So we can have some fun with that too.)

History: Wiki

Sample Network Entry:

[ The camera opens on a black screen, which turns out to be a hand over the camera. ]

Okay. Is this how—

[ The hand moves away, and now there's Lune, at first at a slight angle as she gets the camera straightened out. A woman in her early thirties, dark hair, a line of tiny tattoos running down the right side of her face, from her forehead down to her cheek. ]

Right. I think that's it ... Hello. What's the usual way of introducing oneself here? Well—I'm Lune, and I'm from the city of Lumière. I don't suppose there's anyone else from there as well.

[ A flicker of hope. Too much to ask, perhaps, that any of her fellow Expeditioners are here. ]

I've joined this crew as a warden, and ... well, I hope I can do some good in that capacity. And—well, to be honest, I'm looking forward to learning more about everyone here, and the worlds you come from. [ A small smile. ] I expect I'll have a lot of questions, so I beg your pardon and thank you for your patience in advance.

Special Notes: Please check in with the other Expeditioners at the Barge for me—I'd like them to be okay with Lune. I'm also totally okay with her having to deal with canonmates who tell her all the things she doesn't yet know at her canon point; it may change her approach a lot, and I'm all for it.
